Features
VMware vShield Manager is deployed in a security virtual machine and is designed to install, configure and manage all vShield products. The list below highlights VMware vShield Manager features:
Managed Components
The vShield Manager user interface offers configuration and data viewing options for all vShield products: vShield Edge, vShield App, vShield App with Data Security, vShield Endpoint and vShield Bundle. Tight integration with vCenter Manager allows for display for all underlying vSphere resource pools.
Configuration Options
All vShield Manager functions are hosted in a virtual machine that is accessible via a web browser. In addition to this GUI-based access, service providers may choose to use the VMware REST APIs to build vShield Manager components into existing vDC or cloud management interfaces.
Viewing Options
By utilizing the VMware Infrastructure SDK, the vShield Manager can also display the vSphere Client inventory panel.
The inventory panel offers multiple view options, each displaying different perspectives of the underlying vSphere resource pool and vCenter inventory. vSphere administrators will notice that the Hosts & Clusters, as well as Networks views are consistent with the same views in the vSphere Client:
- Hosts & Clusters: clusters, resource pools, and ESX hosts
- Networks: VLAN networks and port groups
- Org: org resources
- VDC: vDC resources
