VMware vCenter AppSpeed Product Update

As customers continue to expand the use of virtualization and cloud resources, VMware is focusing on delivering management solutions that can support the flexibility that enterprises require. As a result of this focus, we have decided not to produce additional releases of VMware vCenter AppSpeed.

vCenter AppSpeed will no longer be available for new license purchases as of January 3, 2012. However it will continue to be supported through July 3, 2013 in line with our General Support Policy: www.vmware.com/support.

If you already own VMware vCenter Appspeed:

  • Customers who are on active Support and Subscription (SnS) contracts as of December 1, 2011 and active during the entitlement period in January 2012 will be entitled and fulfilled to vFabric Application Performance Manager.

Q. What is vCenter AppSpeed’s end-of-availability date?

A. vCenter AppSpeed will no longer be available for sale as of January 3, 2012 and General Support Services will cease on July 3, 2013.

Q. When will support and subscription services for vCenter AppSpeed end?

A. Customers will be able to get telephone and internet support for vCenter AppSpeed until their current contract expires or End of General Support on July 3, 2013, whichever comes first. VMware will not be developing new patches or releases for vCenter AppSpeed after July 3, 2013. Therefore, if the customer experiences an issue with vCenter AppSpeed, and a patch is not produced prior July 3, 2013 customers may be asked to upgrade vFabric Application Performance Manager.

Q. How do customers upgrade from vCenter AppSpeed to vFabric Application Performance Management (APM)?

A. Customers who are on active Subscription and Support (SnS) contracts will be entitled to the new release of VMware vFabric Application Performance Management 1.0. Entitlement and fulfillment will happen in January 2012. There is no upgrade SKU from vCenter AppSpeed to vFabric Application Performance Manager.

Q. Does the pricing differ between vCenter AppSpeed and vFabric Application Performance Manager ?

A. Yes. vCenter AppSpeed was priced at USD 150 and vFabric Application Performance Manager is priced at USD 360 per virtual machine.

Q. How will the pricing change affect existing SnS contracts for vCenter AppSpeed?

A. Upon SnS renewal, upgraded customers will be required to pay on the new, upgraded product price for vFabric Application Performance Manager (APM). APM SnS has a higher list price than AppSpeed SnS because APM provides significantly more application performance management functionality. SnS costs will not rise prior to customer’s next SnS term.

A.  Customers will receive an email notification.

Q. If a customer who has purchased vCenter AppSpeed and does not want vFabric Application Performance Manager, can they return vCenter AppSpeed?

Q. If I have an SnS contract that terminates beyond the end-of-general-support date of vCenter AppSpeed, am I entitled to a refund?

A. No. VMware will continue to support vCenter AppSpeed through the term of the customer’s SnS contract or End of General Support on July 3, 2013, whichever comes first. VMware will not develop new patches after July 3, 2013. Customers have the option to upgrade to vFabric Application Performance Manager.

A. Customers can continue renewing their existing contract until December 31, 2012.

Q. Will maintenance patches and minor releases continue to be released for vCenter AppSpeed?

A. Maintenance and patches are available to customers on active SnS. After the End of General Support date of July 3, 2013, no new maintenance patches or releases will be released on vCenter AppSpeed. If customers experience an issue with vCenter AppSpeed and a patch is not produced prior to July 3, 2013 customers may be asked to upgrade to vFabric Application Performance Management.

Q. Will products continue to operate even after the end of support date is passed?

A. Yes, the products will continue to function. Customers will just not have access to updates.
