Diane Greene, President and CEO
Diane Greene is President, CEO and co-founder of VMware. Under Diane's leadership, VMware created the market for mainstream virtualization and VMware definitively leads what is now a virtualization software industry. Diane has held technical leadership positions at Silicon Graphics, Sybase and Tandem and was CEO of VXtreme. Diane's degrees include mechanical engineering, naval architecture and computer science from the University of Vermont, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California Berkeley, respectively. Diane serves on the board of VMware and Intuit.
Brian Byun, Vice President of Global Partners and Solutions
Brian Byun leads VMware’s strategic alliances, corporate development and ecosystem development teams responsible for VMware’s OEM, IHV and ISV partnerships. Brian has more than 20 years of experience delivering and marketing enterprise server and storage solutions, application middleware and Internet security software. Prior to VMware, Brian led product management for Rhapsody Networks, an intelligent storage networking venture acquired by Brocade Communications. He has also held product management, professional services, partner marketing and lead engineering roles at AOL, HP and Netscape. Brian holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Paul Chan, Vice President of Product Development
Paul is responsible for VMware's product releases. He has led development of hosted products including VMware Workstation, VMware Player and VMware Server since early 2001. Paul has more than 25 years of software development experience in the areas of compilers, development tools and operating systems. Prior to joining VMware, Paul was a 20 year veteran at HP holding various R&D management positions as well as lead engineering roles. Paul has a bachelor's degree in social science from the University of Hong Kong and a master's degree in computer science from the University of Hawaii.
Dan Chu, Vice President of Emerging Products and Markets
Dan Chu oversees VMware’s emerging businesses, including small and medium business (SMB), software lifecycle automation, virtual appliances and ecommerce, as well as VMware Server and VMware Player. Previously he was president and co-founder of a national managed service provider focused on SMBs, and he also held roles in management consulting at Bain & Company, engineering at IBM and venture capital at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Dan has an MBA and undergraduate degree from Stanford University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
Carl Eschenbach, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations
Carl Eschenbach leads VMware field operations including sales, pre/post-sales engineering and global channel strategies. Carl has more than 20 years of experience in the high tech industry covering all aspects of technology including networking, telephony, storage and infrastructure software. Prior to joining VMware, Carl was vice president of North America Sales at Inktomi where he was instrumental in building out the North America sales, pre-sales engineering and field marketing organizations. He has also held various sales management positions with 3Com, EMC and Lucent Technologies.
Debra Hagan, Vice President of Global Support Services
Debra Hagan oversees VMware's global support and is responsible for advancing customer satisfaction and ensuring partner and customer success. Debra brings more than 20 years experience as a business leader in the high tech industry, specializing in enterprise support and services management. Prior to joining VMware, she held executive and management level positions at companies such as Serena Software, Sun Microsystems and Sybase. Debra holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Dr. Stephen Herrod, Chief Technology Officer
Stephen Herrod is responsible for VMware's new technologies and technology collaborations with customers, partners and standards groups. He has led the VMware ESX group through numerous successful releases. Prior to joining VMware, Stephen was Senior Director of Software at Transmeta Corporation co-leading development of their "Code Morphing" technology. Stephen holds a Ph.D. and a Masters degree in Computer Science from Stanford University where he worked with VMware's founders on the SimOS machine simulation project.
Kate Hutchison, Chief Marketing Officer
Kate Hutchison oversees worldwide corporate marketing at VMware and is responsible for the VMware brand and coordinating the marketing strategies and messaging across corporate, channel, field and product marketing teams. Kate has 20 years of experience in high technology marketing, and helped launch VMware’s first product, VMware Workstation. Kate joined VMware from Citrix Systems, where she was Senior Vice President of Marketing. Prior to Citrix, Kate was Senior Vice President of Marketing at BEA. Her experience also includes several high tech and biotech startups. Kate has a master’s degree from San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree from Long Island University, Southampton College, New York.
Mark Peek, Chief Financial Officer
Mark Peek oversees VMware’s finance, IT and facilities teams. Mark has more than 25 years of industry experience. He previously held the positions of Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer at Amazon.com. As Chief Accounting Officer, he oversaw the company's controllership, accounting, financial reporting and financial operations. Prior to joining Amazon.com in 2000, Mark was an audit partner at Deloitte, where he focused on technology companies and multi-national project and engagement management. Mark received a BS in accounting and international finance from Minnesota State University, where he graduated summa cum laude.
Raghu Raghuram, Vice President of Products and Solutions
Raghu Raghuram leads worldwide product marketing, product management, solution marketing and business planning for the VMware Infrastructure business. Since joining VMware, he has held multiple roles in product management and marketing, most recently running product marketing for the VMware Infrastructure product line. Prior to VMware, Raghu has held product management and marketing roles at AOL,Bang Networks and Netscape. Raghu holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
Karthik Rau, Vice President of Marketing
Karthik Rau oversees worldwide field, channel and alliance marketing at VMware. Karthik previously held multiple roles in product development, most recently running worldwide product management for VMware's server products. Prior to VMware, Karthik worked at Loudcloud where he led product management for the Opsware data center automation product suite. He has also worked in product management for Responsys.com and in the fixed income derivatives group at J.P. Morgan. Karthik has both a bachelors and masters degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and was a Terman Scholar.
Richard Sarwal, Executive Vice President of Research & Development
Richard Sarwal oversees all of VMware’s product strategy, research and development activities. Richard has more than 20 years of experience in the software industry, and most recently was the Senior Vice President of Systems Management at Oracle. In this role, Richard led Oracle’s development of all aspects of Enterprise Systems Management for the company, including Provisioning, Patching, Configuration Management, Performance and Application Service Level Management. Prior to joining Oracle in 1989, Mr. Sarwal began his career as a programmer, DBA and systems engineer. Richard received a Bachelor’s degree in commerce from St Xavier’s College at Calcutta University.
Tayloe Stansbury, Chief Information Officer
Tayloe Stansbury leads VMware’s worldwide information systems infrastructure, with a focus on showcasing VMware’s technologies. Tayloe has more than 24 years of experience in the software industry, most recently as executive vice president of Ariba, where he led engineering, product management, hosting, IT, and customer support. Previously, Tayloe held executive engineering and general management roles at Calico Commerce and Xerox. Before that, he worked on developer tools at Borland and Sun, and did research in computational linguistics at Xerox PARC. Tayloe graduated with honors in math and computer science from Harvard University.
Betsy Sutter, Vice President of Human Resources
Betsy Sutter is responsible for human resources at VMware. Prior to this role, she was vice president of human resources for Silicon Gaming. Betsy has more than 20 years of experience in human resources management including management positions with Aehr Test Systems, Digital Equipment Corporation and General Electric/Intersil. Betsy holds a bachelor's degree in history from the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Mendel Rosenblum, Chief Scientist
Mendel Rosenblum is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, where he leads a group focused on operating systems research. Together with his students, he developed the Hive operating system, the SimOS machine simulator and the Disco virtual machine monitor. In 2002, he received the ACM SIGOPS Mark Weiser Award for his creativity, innovation and vision in operating systems research. He holds a doctorate and master's degree in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Virginia.
Scott Devine, Principal Engineer
Scott Devine was a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at Stanford University prior to co-founding VMware. His primary research interests are in operating systems and computer architectures, and he was a key member of the SimOS and Disco virtual machine research teams. He holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree from Stanford University.
Dr. Edward Wang, Principal Engineer
Edward Wang has more than 10 years of high tech industry experience. Prior to joining VMware, he worked as a principal engineer at VXtreme and Mindcraft and has consulted extensively on UNIX software projects. In 1993, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Usenix for his contributions to the development of Berkeley UNIX. He also helped to neutralize the infamous Internet Worm virus by discovering and describing one of its key mechanisms. He holds a doctorate and master's degree in computer science and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.
Edouard Bugnion
Edouard Bugnion was a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at Stanford University prior to co-founding VMware. His primary research interests are in operating systems and computer architectures, and he was a key member of the SimOS and Disco virtual machine research teams. He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from ETH Zurich and a master's degree from Stanford University.
