VirtualAppliances.net's Cacti Server is the easiest way monitor and graph your network traffic. Cacti is a network monitoring and graphing solution that uses SNMP and other data acquisition techniques to collect, and display information about Network activity.

Cacti is based on RRDTool graphing tools, and MySQL.

You can use Cacti Server to monitor uptime, traffic levels, application availablity and other factors of your webservers, routers or whole network.

Running Cacti for the first time

During the first run, a small wizard is displayed for configuring Cacti. It should be noted that none of these settings need to be changed from the defaults.

It is safe to click next, next, next, and done.

Also, during the first login to Cacti server (not to be confused with the Virtual Appliances web administration interface), you will be prompted to change your password.

NOTE: the default user name/password for Cacti is admin/admin.

There is file in the Virtual Appliance dowload file (zip or tar.bz2) called README.cacti.txt. There you will find more details on how to start the appliance, manage it, secure it, use virtual harddrives, and manage the application.
